The South African national team and Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder has passed away shortly after the World Cup.

Details: According to Soccer Laduma, Mamelodi Sundowns and South Africa midfielder Jayden Adams has died at the age of 25. The heartbreaking news was also confirmed by the player's representatives.

At the time of publication, Mamelodi Sundowns had not yet released an official statement. The circumstances and cause of Adams' death have not been disclosed.

The player's coach, Brendin Johnson, shared that he had spoken with Adams just on Thursday. The midfielder sounded optimistic and was preparing to return to the club after an extended break. He was set to join the team at their training camp in Austria next week.

Just a few weeks earlier, Adams represented South Africa at the 2026 World Cup. He featured in all three group stage matches but remained on the bench for the round of 16 clash against Canada, which ended in a 0-1 defeat for the South Africans.

Before joining Mamelodi Sundowns in January 2025, the midfielder played for Stellenbosch, making 139 appearances for the club and winning the Carling Knockout Cup. With the South African national team, Adams also claimed the bronze medal at the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations.

Reminder: Bafana Bafana head home. Canada reaches World Cup round of 16 for the first time in history.
