South Africa national team forward Percy Tau firmly believes his journey with Bafana Bafana is far from over, despite facing criticism and a recent dip in form. In an interview with Robert Marawa on #MSWon947, the 31-year-old striker emphasized that he understands where doubts about his performances stem from.
I still feel that I can bring value to the national team. Yes, there have been matches that might have raised questions, but that doesn't mean I'm a bad player. My name is still the same, I’m still Percy, and I will always give my all and push myself to the maximum.
Football is a game of ups and downs. But why is it that at the first sign of trouble, a player is immediately dropped from the squad? That kind of approach undermines the very idea of the national team. I don't want players to feel that they are only trusted when everything is perfect. There has to be a balance — you need both young and experienced players. And by the way, I'm only 31. Some coaches act like I’m 38," Tau added.
Recall, after missing out on the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in March and a challenging spell with Egypt's Al Ahly, Tau moved to Qatar SC, where he featured in nine matches over six months, provided two assists, but did not find the net.
