Hugo Broos: It is important for Bafana Bafana to win our opening game even tough Angola will be a tough team to beat

Hugo Broos emphasises that Bafana Bafana should beat Angola this evening to ensure their start to the Africa Cup of Nations is not one filled with pressure.

Broos said winning their opening encounter is likely to ease off pressure from his troops going into the last two remaining group matches.

The South African national team faces the Palancas Negras at the Stade de Marrakesh this evening in their Group B maiden match.

Broos’ men entered the tournament as favourites having finished third in the previous spectacle in Ivory Coast.

That has put Broos and his troops under pressure to deliver at this year’s 35th Afcon edition in Morocco.

“We are very happy that we can start this tournament and play our first game this evening,” Broos said as per safa.net.

We all know that we will face a tough opponent [Angola], but I think that my team is ready. It is very important we win that first game. I think you make a big step for qualification for later or to survive the group stages.

“So again, we will try to win it and to put ourselves in a good position for the second game against Egypt.”

The match starts at 7pm.
