Hugo Broos: Aswin Appollis has become a better player since he moved to Orlando Pirates that the midfielder he was while at Polokwane City

Hugo Broos has commended Aswin Appollis’ progression under Abdeslam Ouaddou at Orlando Pirates.

Broos believes the former Pretoria Callies, SuperSport United and Polokwane City midfielder has made tremendous career change since arriving at Orlando Stadium.

The Bafana Bafana gaffer said the Appollis he called while at Polokwane City is a far different player to the one wearing the black and white shirt of Pirates.

“Oswin has made a very big progression, so when I first saw him play in his former team, the qualities were there but it was only in the offensive way,” said Broos of the player who joined Pirates in the off-season.

“I think Aswin has become more mature now, he’s playing at Pirates. I think his coach there has helped him a lot. I see him working now, he works a lot.

“He’s dangerous on the ball, he’s a good passer of the ball and he has become very important for Orlando Pirates and he’s been important for Bafana Bafana in the past games.

“He’s scored goals, always dangerous when he’s on the ball. He helps us a lot when we don’t have the ball. He’s progressed a lot.

“Even though he’s small, he has the energy of someone who’s two times higher than him. I’m very happy with him really.”

Appollis is in camp with Bafana ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations which starts next week. Bafana face Ghana on Tuesday in a friendly international to wrap up their preparations for the 35th edition of the biennial continental spectacle.
