Mexico now faces the real risk of losing its right to host matches for the 2026 World Cup.
Details: According to SportBible, just days ago, around 456 bags filled with human remains were discovered near Akron Stadium, the venue slated to host World Cup 2026 games in Mexico.
Jalisco state, where the stadium is located, is notorious for its high crime rate, largely due to the presence of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel. Experts believe that the cartel is responsible for the gruesome discovery.
Servin Garcia, a member of the search team working to identify and recover the bodies, questioned whether Mexico should still host World Cup matches:
"Right now we have about 456 bags, give or take, and all of this is just a stone’s throw from Akron Stadium, where the World Cup matches are supposed to take place.
Unfortunately, it’s incredibly sad that the World Cup will be held here while so much evil prevails." Garcia admitted.
Even though Mexican authorities have declared war on the cartels and ramped up security, fans on social media are already calling on FIFA to cancel the World Cup matches in Mexico and move them to a safer location.
