Former world lightweight champion Devin Haynie has announced that he will relinquish his WBA, IBF and WBO belts after his fight with WBC welterweight champion Regis Progres, ESPN reports.

He stated that he worked diligently in the lightweight division, with his most significant fight in this weight class being against Gervonta Davis. However, Haney expressed a lack of interest from Davis' team.

“Moving beyond the lightweight category, he is now contending for the title in the 140-pound division. Post this fight, Haney intends to ascend to the light middleweight division and vie for a title in his third weight class”, he said.

Having triumphed over George Kambosos, Haney became the undisputed lightweight champion. In early August, it was announced that the WBC lightweight title would be vacated, and Haney would assume the status of "Champion in Recess."

Devin Haney's most recent bout took place in May 2023. Haney secured a victory over Vasyl Lomachenko via a unanimous decision, becoming the first undisputed world champion to successfully defend all four titles in two consecutive bouts.

This designation allows Haney to once again compete for the WBC lightweight title. Following this, boxers have had the opportunity to secure belts from the WBA, IBF, and WBO. The clash between Haney and Prograis is set to take place on December 9.
