Gago Still Awaiting Reimbursement from Boca for Paying to Leave Chivas

Fernando Gago’s departure from Boca Juniors continues to stir controversy—not just for sporting reasons, but also due to an unresolved financial issue. As Marca reported, Boca has yet to reimburse the former coach for the money he paid out of pocket to terminate his contract with Chivas de Guadalajara, where he was head coach before returning to Argentina.
When Gago was appointed in 2024, he covered the cost of his exit from the Mexican club under the condition that Boca would later compensate him. However, following his dismissal after a disappointing season—including failure to reach the Copa Libertadores group stage—the repayment remains in limbo.
Club vice president Juan Román Riquelme is reportedly considering how to settle the matter, though current financial constraints pose an obstacle. The issue has drawn criticism in both Argentina and Mexico, where Gago’s controversial departure from Chivas still lingers.
Meanwhile, Chivas is on the hunt for a new manager ahead of the 2025 Apertura, hoping to reclaim its status as a contender in Liga MX, especially with archrivals Club América enjoying consistent success.
