Finally: Hugo Broos talks about his future with Bafana Bafana

The coach, who has had the longest tenure with the South African national team of any coach, is now deciding his future with just one year left on his contract, which is set to expire in 2026.
Broos had already surpassed Clive Barker as the longest serving coach of the South African national team.
Hugo Broos, the 73-year-old Belgian tactician, took charge of South Africa's national team in May 2021 and has since led the side to notable success. Under his guidance, Bafana Bafana clinched a third-place finish at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, marking a significant achievement for the team.
With his current contract running until the conclusion of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Broos is now close to securing another milestone—qualification for the global tournament. His leadership has reignited hope among South African fans as the team edges closer to a potential World Cup berth.
Speaking to the media in Polokwane, the Belgian coach confirmed that he will retire as South Africa coach after the World Cup in North America in the summer of 2026.
Belgian tactician Hugo Broos has confirmed his decision to step away from coaching following the conclusion of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. "My journey ends here," stated the 73-year-old, whose illustrious career spans nearly four decades on the touchline.
Having first entered professional football as a teenage player before transitioning to management, Broos emphasized, "There comes a time when you must walk away. I won't spend my final years on the training pitch." The former Cameroon boss, who took charge of South Africa in 2021, plans to embrace retirement with his wife, humorously noting, "I look forward to peaceful mornings with coffee - football will have to manage without me."
While ruling out a full-time return, the AFCON bronze medalist left the door ajar for advisory roles: "Perhaps I could consult for South Africa or other teams occasionally, but my days of daily commitments are over." His announcement comes as Bafana Bafana push for World Cup qualification in what would be Broos' final campaign.
