The FIFA Club World Cup trophy has made its way to Africa in anticipation of the 2025 tournament, which will include 32 teams for the first time. Mamelodi Sundowns (South Africa), Wydad AC (Morocco), Espérance de Tunis (Tunisia), and Al Ahly (Egypt) are the four African powerhouses that will compete on the continent from June 14 to July 13, 2025.
Mamelodi Sundowns, the current African champions, hosted the trophy's first stop in Pretoria, South Africa. Tlhopie Motsepe, the club chairman, highlighted the tournament's importance for African football by using the isiZulu saying, "One hand washes the other," which stands for aspiration and solidarity.
Sundowns, who are playing in their second Club World Cup after their debut in 2016, are in a difficult group with Ulsan HD (South Korea), Fluminense (Brazil), and Borussia Dortmund (Germany).
Africa's increasing prominence on the world football scene will be highlighted by the trophy tour's next stops in Cairo, Tunis, and Casablanca.
