PSV sporting director Earnie Stewart has officially confirmed that the transfer of US international Ricardo Pepi to London club Fulham has ultimately fallen through.

Details: Despite serious interest from the English side, the parties were unable to finalize the deal due to fundamental disagreements. According to Stewart, the main stumbling block was the issue of legal and financial responsibility for the player before the official opening of the transfer window.

It turned out that Fulham insisted on a highly specific condition: the London club wanted to reserve the right to cancel the deal at the last minute if Pepi suffered an injury before the window officially opened. PSV management considered these demands unacceptable, believing that the risk should transfer to the buyer as soon as an agreement is reached.

"In the end, an agreement was not reached precisely at the moment when responsibility for the player was supposed to be transferred," Stewart explained.

The negotiation saga proved to be long and complicated. The clubs began discussions back in the winter break, but at that time PSV blocked the move because they couldn’t find a replacement for their striker. A week after the winter window closed, talks resumed with renewed intensity, and the parties even managed to narrow their differences somewhat, but a fatal disagreement over injury 'insurance' details ultimately nullified all scouting efforts.

According to the director, Ricardo Pepi himself is extremely disappointed that the Premier League move fell through, as he genuinely wanted this transfer.

For the 23-year-old American, this was a significant psychological blow, but PSV is trying to look at the situation positively.

"Of course, we're happy to keep a striker of such high caliber at the club," Stewart concluded.

Notably, this season the American has played 27 matches for the Dutch club in all competitions, scoring 13 goals and providing 2 assists.

Recall: It was previously reported that the Dutch and English clubs had reached an agreement on Pepi's transfer.
