Luka Jovic has helped AEK deliver an early blow against his former club.

Details: In the fourth round of the Champions League league phase, AEK Athens stunned Real Madrid by opening the scoring in the 12th minute. Aboubakary Koita found the net after an assist from former Madrid striker Luka Jovic, putting the Greek side 1-0 ahead and leaving Jose Mourinho's team chasing the game almost immediately.

The goal carries extra significance because of Jovic's history with Real Madrid. The Serbian forward joined the Spanish giants from Eintracht Frankfurt in 2019 before eventually leaving the club. Now wearing AEK's colors, he has returned to haunt his former teammates on the Champions League stage.

Real Madrid entered the encounter with a perfect record in the competition, having won all three of their opening matches against Inter, Roma and RB Leipzig. AEK, meanwhile, had collected just three points from their first three games.

It is worth noting that Jovic won the Champions League with Real Madrid in the 2021/22 season before joining AEK in August 2025. According to UEFA, the Greek club had also remained unbeaten in its previous two home encounters with the Spanish giants.
