Domenicali assesses the prospect of Formula 1 returning to South Africa

Africa is currently the only continent without a Formula 1 Grand Prix. The CEO of the championship, Stefano Domenicali, has expressed his desire to bring racing back to the continent, and he has weighed in on the prospects of such a return.
Details: Several options are being considered for hosting a South African Grand Prix, including Cape Town or Kyalami, as well as the possibility of a race in Rwanda. However, Domenicali emphasized that discussions remain somewhat complicated at this stage.
Quote: “Negotiations are ongoing. We are gradually making progress and working together to find the best solution. However, whenever a new opportunity arises, it is crucial to ensure it has long-term prospects. We cannot come to a new venue once or twice without the guarantee that we will stay for the long run.
Of the three locations, I do not expect any decisions to be made in the near future. As you know, we are genuinely interested in hosting a Grand Prix on the African continent, but for now, we are trying to find the right plan. I hope we can share more about this project with you soon,” Domenicali said.
For reference: The last time the African continent hosted a Formula 1 Grand Prix was back in 1993, which was the South African Grand Prix.
