Court fines German federation in controversial 2006 World Cup payout case

Next year will mark the 20th anniversary of the 2006 World Cup in Germany, but the tournament's legacy continues to haunt the local federation to this day.
Details: According to Reuters, the Frankfurt court has fined the German Football Association €110,000 over a disputed payment related to that World Cup. The investigation highlighted a sum of €6.7 million from FIFA, which was used for purposes other than intended and should not have been included in tax deductions.
Despite this, the court ruled that the amount should have been reported in the 2002 accounts, not in 2006, and imposed a €110,000 fine on the German Football Association. In 2017, the German tax authorities demanded more than €20 million in unpaid taxes from the federation, connected to the 2006 tournament.
Background: In 2016, an investigation commissioned by the federation revealed that the funds in question were a loan repayment via FIFA from former Adidas head Robert Louis-Dreyfus.
