Copa Venezuela Returns with New Format and Youth-Focused Rules

Copa Venezuela is set to return on June 4 with a revamped format designed to boost competitiveness and prioritize youth development. According to the FVF, 28 clubs from Venezuela’s top two divisions will participate in the tournament, which will now span five months instead of one.
The competition begins with a group stage featuring five groups of four teams, each including at least one from the top flight. Group winners and the three best runners-up will advance to the Round of 16, where the eight Apertura semifinalists—La Guaira, UCV, Carabobo, Metropolitanos, Táchira, Portuguesa, Puerto Cabello, and Anzoátegui—are already seeded.
This year’s edition places a strong emphasis on developing young talent. Each team must field at least six U-23 players, with three required to play the full match. The 2024 edition saw 98 players under 20 debut—this figure is expected to rise in 2025.
The expanded tournament will include 90 matches and run concurrently with the Torneo Clausura, ensuring continuous weekly action. The winner will secure a berth in the Venezuelan Supercup. With longer duration, youth mandates, and a competitive structure, Copa Venezuela 2025 aims to become a cornerstone of the national football calendar.
