Cavani Still Doubtful for Boca as Bayern Clash Nears

Edinson Cavani’s return to action for Boca Juniors remains uncertain, casting doubt over his availability for the high-stakes showdown against Bayern Munich. According to TyC Sports, the Uruguayan striker has yet to rejoin full training and is unlikely to be ready for Saturday’s Group C clash.
Cavani arrived in the U.S. nine days ago with hopes of quickly reintegrating into the squad under manager Miguel Ángel Russo. However, he remains sidelined due to a right calf injury aggravated during Boca’s Apertura quarterfinal against Independiente on May 18. He has not played since.
The 37-year-old watched the opening match against Benfica from the sidelines, and the situation doesn’t look much different ahead of the match against Bayern. At best, he could make the bench if there’s late progress in his recovery.
Miguel Merentiel has stepped up admirably in Cavani’s absence, even donning the captain’s armband. Still, Cavani’s presence would bring invaluable experience against a powerhouse like Bayern. For now, Boca’s staff fears he might not be ready even for Tuesday’s game against Auckland City.
Cavani has faced Bayern four times in his European career—twice with Napoli and twice with PSG—recording one win, one draw, two losses, and a single goal. Whether he’ll get a chance to add to that record with Boca remains an open question.
