Carrick addresses Manchester United star's injury after early substitution against PSG
Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick has sought to calm supporters after Mason Mount was forced to leave the field early during a friendly against PSG. The match in Gothenburg ended 1-1, but the English midfielder had to request a substitution just minutes into the game.
Mount lasted less than 20 minutes before limping off, replaced by Tyler Fletcher. Given the 27-year-old's ongoing fitness issues, the incident sparked fears that he could face another lengthy spell on the sidelines. However, Carrick urged everyone not to overreact.
He took a knock. We just wanted to be cautious and look after him. We've been quite lucky with injuries so far, so we decided to play it safe, the coach explained.
Later, Mount was seen walking freely towards the team bus, which further suggests the injury is not serious.
It’s worth recalling that since his move from Chelsea in 2023, the Englishman has struggled with recurring injuries. In that time, he has started only 25 Premier League matches for Manchester United out of a possible 114.
