CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe has arrived in Cairo, Egypt, ahead of the 14th CAF Extraordinary General Assembly scheduled for March 12, 2025. He was welcomed by Hany Abo Rida, President of the Egyptian Football Association, and CAF General Secretary Véron Mosengo-Omba.

Key Meetings Leading Up to the Assembly

A series of critical meetings will take place this week to examine football growth across the continent.

  • Dr. Motsepe led discussions with CAF Zonal Unions on March 10, which were followed by a friendly match between CAF officials and African football superstars.
  • The CAF Executive Committee (EXCO) will meet on March 11 to examine African football's progress and future strategies.
  • Dr. Motsepe will hold an official news conference at the end of the CAF Extraordinary General Assembly on March 12.

WAFU B Meeting Highlights Regional Progress

Ghana Football Association President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku chaired the CAF Zonal WAFU B meeting, attended by Dr. Motsepe as a special guest. Okraku praised Motsepe’s leadership and financial investments in African football and highlighted WAFU B’s administrative improvements under Executive Director Philippe Tchere.

Key announcements from the WAFU B meeting:

  • New Headquarters: WAFU B’s new offices in Abidjan will be inaugurated on April 27, 2025.
  • young Competitions: At least five young tournaments for boys and girls are planned for 2025 to help develop talent.
  • Capacity Building: A greater emphasis on training programs to enhance football administration throughout the zone.

CAF Increases Financial and Developmental Support

CAF continues to improve its financial support for its 54 Member Associations and six Zonal Unions.

  • Annual Zonal Union subventions have increased from $500,000 to $750,000.
  • Member Association subventions increased from $200,000 to $400,000.
  • Investment in VAR Academies totaled $3.5 million across Zonal Unions.
  • A new CAF Broadcast Academy has been established to help students improve their TV production talents.
