Boca’s Ultras Endorse Bombonera Expansion Amid Renewed Stadium Debate

The long-standing debate over the future of Boca Juniors’ iconic stadium took a new twist this week. According to TyC Sports, the “Slovenian Project,” one of the proposals to expand La Bombonera, introduced key updates and gained public backing from Rafael Di Zeo, leader of Boca’s notorious barra brava La Doce, which reposted the proposal on its official Instagram.
Fabián Fiori, who leads the initiative, explained that only half of two half-blocks would need to be acquired for the plan to move forward. The project avoids roofing or street closures, maintains the original architectural identity of Delpini, Sulcic, and Bes, and includes a new tourist walkway and homage tower.
Originally unveiled in 2018 at the Slovenian Embassy, the project was pitched as the only viable expansion, aiming to remodel three stands and purchase properties along Del Valle Iberlucea.
Meanwhile, club president Juan Román Riquelme continues to oppose both this and the "360" plan, working instead on his own expansion model. Per Infobae, Boca’s board envisions an 80,000-seat stadium with construction potentially starting in 2026, already backed by funding.
