Boca Executive Backs Riquelme, Blames Players After Elimination Fallout

Following Boca Juniors’ quarterfinal loss to Independiente in the Apertura Tournament, club executive Alejandro Veiga delivered a fiery defense of president Juan Román Riquelme while harshly criticizing the squad, according to Canal 26. “Boca plays badly and people blame the president. It’s time for the players to step up and back him on the field,” Veiga said.
The mood at La Bombonera was tense, with fans chanting against the board and the team as Riquelme watched from the presidential box without reacting. Veiga, however, took to the media, saying: “They say Fabra and Pol Fernández shouldn’t play anymore, but the president supports them. Now it’s their turn to support him.” He added that Riquelme is fully aware of the situation: “He takes note of everything and will make changes if needed. He’s not perfect, but he works 24/7 for the club.”
With growing fan unrest and poor results, Boca finds itself at a critical juncture in Riquelme’s tenure.
