The disturbances caused by Swiss Young Boys fans during the Europa League clash against Aston Villa have led to further arrests.
Details: According to ESPN, six more individuals were detained at Birmingham Airport, bringing the total number of arrests to eight.
The incidents unfolded Thursday evening at Villa Park during the home side's 2-1 victory. Fans of the Swiss club sparked chaos, throwing various objects at police and Villa players, including coins and broken seat parts. An investigation is underway, with officials reviewing CCTV footage and bodycam recordings.
West Midlands Police confirmed that six men were arrested at the airport on Friday afternoon on suspicion of assaulting a police officer and violent disorder. Earlier, during the match itself, two fans had already been detained on similar charges.
This is not the first such incident involving the Swiss side. Two years ago, Young Boys were fined €28,250 for fan disturbances during a match against Manchester City.
Young Boys head coach Gerardo Seoane has already issued an apology for the fans' behavior.
Recall: Several officers were injured in the attack, and Dutch forward Donyell Malen suffered a head injury.
