When Gordon took to the pitch, he was 43 years and 314 days old, making him the oldest player ever to feature in European World Cup qualification. The previous record was held by Stanley Matthews and had stood for 60 years.
Thanks to Gordon's experience and commitment, Scotland defeated Denmark 4-2, and head coach Steve Clarke was quick to point out that Gordon played a crucial role in the team's success.
Earlier, Gordon admitted he had planned to retire this summer, but Steve Clarke persuaded him to play one more season, believing the national team might need him. That request proved prophetic.
This marks Scotland's first World Cup appearance in 26 years.
