The visitors are forced to open up: prediction for Žalgiris Vilnius vs Petrovac
Petrovac
The first qualifying round clash of the 2026/27 Conference League between Žalgiris and Petrovac will take place on Thursday at the LFF Stadium in Vilnius. The Lithuanian side claimed a 3-1 victory in the first leg in Montenegro, earning a comfortable advantage, which now leaves the visitors no choice but to take risks and chase at least two goals.
Žalgiris Vilnius: form and match rhythm on the hosts' side
In the first leg, Žalgiris quickly took the lead thanks to Nikola Petrović, and after Nemanja Carević equalised, they stepped up again in the second half. Petrović struck again to complete his brace before Stanislav Bilenkyi sealed a convincing away win.
The team has lost just one of their last six matches, racking up four wins in that period. In four of those six games, the Lithuanians scored three goals, and they won their last two home fixtures against Riteriai (3-2) and Panevėžys (3-0). The only squad absence is striker M. Chol.
Petrovac: forced to fight back without much official practice
For the Montenegrin club, the first leg was their only official match of the new season so far. Petrovac managed to respond quickly after conceding, but after the break, they couldn't handle the pressure and allowed their opponents to strike twice more.
Before that, the team played out two consecutive 1-1 draws - against Budućnost and Mornar. Petrovac has only one win in their last five matches, so the need to play attacking football away from home makes their task even tougher.
Match facts and head-to-head
- The first leg ended with a 3-1 victory for Žalgiris.
- Five of Žalgiris's last six games have featured at least three goals.
- Žalgiris scored exactly three goals in four of their previous six matches.
Open football inevitable? Prediction for Žalgiris Vilnius vs Petrovac
The hosts can afford to play according to the scoreline, but it's unlikely they'll fully abandon their attacking style. Žalgiris are in fine form, regularly finding the net, and at home they are well equipped to exploit the space that will open up behind the visitors' defence.
Petrovac must push forward, as a cautious approach won't overturn a two-goal deficit. The Montenegrins might be able to take advantage if the Lithuanians relax with their comfortable lead, but an open game should lead to more chances at both ends.
