Prediction for the Hibernian vs Gent match: everything will be decided in Edinburgh - 27.08.2026

The winner of this two-legged tie will secure a ticket to the tournament’s main stage. Kick-off is at 20:00 Kyiv time.

The first meeting a week ago ended 0-0. On one hand, Gent failed to capitalize on their home advantage. On the other, the Belgians might be left frustrated that they didn’t concede at all: as early as the 15th minute, Owen Elding missed a penalty, and visiting goalkeeper Davy Roef kept his team in the game.
For Hibernian, this result looks quite promising. The Scots kept a clean sheet in Gent and now return home, where the atmosphere at Easter Road could become a decisive factor. Prior to this, David Gray’s side saw off Shkëndija, winning the first leg 2-1 and holding a 0-0 draw in the return, and even managed to defeat Rangers away — 2-1.
However, the hosts have no reason to relax. Gent have shown consistent form in European competitions over several rounds. The Belgians overcame Göteborg with an aggregate score of 2-1, and started their league campaign with two wins — over Mechelen (2-0) and La Louvière (2-1).
Interestingly, both teams currently boast several matches without conceding. So a cautious start seems entirely plausible. Gent no longer need to score first at all costs, and Hibernian know full well that a single goal could turn the entire tie on its head.
Special mention goes to Owen Elding. The young striker has already netted twice in Hibernian’s European campaign, but after missing that penalty in the first leg, he’ll be eager to make amends in front of his own fans. The squad also features the experienced Martin Boyle, who can add pace to the attack.
On paper, Gent look slightly stronger in terms of squad depth, but the home factor could level the playing field. There will be no excuses tonight: 90 minutes — and we’ll find out which team keeps their European adventure alive this autumn.
