HERE WE GO! Galatasaray finally win the Rafael Leão race
The long running Rafael Leão saga has reached its decisive moment. Galatasaray have secured an agreement in principle for the Milan star after a late battle with Aston Villa.
Details: Fabrizio Romano reports that Galatasaray have agreed to sign Leão, with Milan set to receive a package worth more than €45 million plus add-ons and a sell-on clause. The winger accepted after the Turkish club improved its terms.
Galatasaray had been pushing hard to land the Portugal international, while Aston Villa attempted to change the player's mind with their own proposal. The Premier League side entered the race late and were reported to have made progress, but the improved offer from Istanbul proved decisive. The deal represents a major statement from the Turkish champions. Leão is one of the most recognisable attacking players in European football, and his arrival would give Galatasaray another marquee name for the new season. Milan, meanwhile, have agreed to a structure that includes a significant guaranteed fee, bonuses and a share of any future sale. The agreement in principle is the key breakthrough, although the final formalities still need to be completed. Romano's famous confirmation nevertheless suggests that the clubs and the player have reached the finish line after several days of rapid developments.
It's worth noting that Leão has been under contract with Milan until June 2028. He joined the Rossoneri from Lille in 2019 and helped them win the 2021/22 Serie A title.
