On June 16, Skonto Stadions (Riga) will host the match of the 3rd round of the Euro 2024 Qualification, in which Latvia will compete with Turkey. The battle will start at 20:45 CET.

Latvia

The team is the only one among the representatives of the Baltic countries that managed to break through to the top level and played at the Euro (and even took a draw there). Still, that happened almost two decades ago, in 2004. Then, “the Red and Whites” have never been close to repeating the higher mentioned success. The national team triumphantly made its way directly to the previous Euro. Still, it showed the worst result of all 24 participants at the very tournament. Moreover, the state of things in the qualification began to fall apart, so, there was no surprise that Kuntz became the new mentor. Stefan was able to lift “the Janissaries” to the 2nd place (and lost the away match of the play-off to Portugal with a 1-3 score), which was followed by the triumph in the group of the Nations League. The new qualifying cycle began with a strong-willed victory in Armenia (Kabak’s early own goal did not bother the team). Still, speaking about the confrontation against a stronger opponent, the Croats, nothing could be opposed even at the home arena – a 0-2 failure. However, two teams will overcome the group stage that is why it is important to take the points with the outsiders. It is not surprising that almost all the best players, with a minimum of debutants, have been collected again.
