The final participant in the UEFA Champions League from Serie A for next season has been determined
The final participant in the UEFA Champions League from Serie A for next season has been determined.
Atalanta secured their spot by defeating Lecce 2-0 in the 37th round, guaranteeing themselves fifth place in the standings with two rounds remaining in the championship.
While Roma can theoretically catch up to Atalanta, the Bergamo side will edge out the "Wolves" due to a better head-to-head record (2:1, 1:1).
It should be noted that teams finishing from first to fifth in Serie A qualify directly for the group stage of the Champions League.
This marks the fourth time in their history that the Bergamo team has qualified for the Champions League. They last competed in Europe’s premier club tournament in the 2021/22 season, with their best performance being a quarter-final appearance in the 2019/20 campaign.
Atalanta will also play in the Europa League final against Bayer Leverkusen on May 22.
