Wow! Emiliano Martinez starts immediately for Chelsea just hours after his transfer
Emiliano Martinez has barely had time to settle in at Chelsea before being thrown straight into the starting lineup.
Details: Chelsea have officially confirmed that Emiliano Martinez will make his debut for the club from the first minute of today's Premier League clash against Brighton. The decision comes on the very same day the London side announced the signing of the Argentine goalkeeper from Aston Villa.
There will be no lengthy adaptation period for the 33-year-old. Xabi Alonso has immediately entrusted Martinez with a place in goal for Chelsea's first Premier League home fixture of the 2026/27 season at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues enter the Brighton match after opening their league campaign with a 3-2 victory away at Fulham. Chelsea then defeated Luton Town 2-0 in the Carabao Cup, meaning Martinez's debut comes as Alonso's side look to extend their winning start to the new campaign.
It is worth noting that Martinez leaves Aston Villa after making 256 appearances for the Birmingham club across six seasons. Chelsea also highlight his enormous international experience: the goalkeeper has won the 2022 World Cup and the 2021 and 2024 Copa America titles with Argentina.
Reminder: Official! Emiliano Martinez joins a Premier League giant
