Official! Emiliano Martinez joins a Premier League giant
Chelsea have finally put an end to one of the biggest goalkeeping stories of the summer transfer window.
Details: Emiliano Martinez has completed his permanent move from Aston Villa to Chelsea. The 33-year-old Argentina goalkeeper will continue his career at Stamford Bridge after the London club reached a full agreement with Villa over the transfer.
Chelsea will pay £7.5 million for Martinez. The goalkeeper has signed a two-year contract running until June 2028, while the agreement also includes an option to extend his stay for a further season until the summer of 2029.
The transfer brings Martinez's long spell at Aston Villa to an end. The Argentine joined the Birmingham club from Arsenal in 2020 and established himself as their first-choice goalkeeper before deciding to take on a new challenge in the Premier League.
Martinez now joins Chelsea's goalkeeping department as the Blues continue reshaping their squad under Xabi Alonso. His arrival comes shortly after Aston Villa strengthened the same position with the signing of Japan international Zion Suzuki.
It is worth noting that Martinez is a 2022 World Cup winner with Argentina. Transfermarkt currently estimates the 33-year-old goalkeeper's market value at €12 million.
