What a miss! Palmer squanders a huge chance against Brighton
Chelsea are continuing their second-round Premier League clash against Brighton, and it has been a difficult game for the London side. In the 72nd minute, the hosts are leading 3-2, although the Blues had looked to be in a more comfortable position earlier in the match.
In the 58th minute, Chelsea had an excellent opportunity to extend their lead. Cole Palmer found himself in a promising position and could have added another goal, but the England midfielder failed to convert the chance created for him by Rogers, sending the ball over the bar from just a few yards out.
The miss proved particularly significant given how the match subsequently unfolded. Brighton continued to look for a way back into the game and managed to reduce the deficit.
In the 63rd minute, the ball ended up in Chelsea's net following an own goal by João Pedro. The hosts were consequently back within one goal of their opponents at 3-2.
Chelsea must now withstand Brighton's pressure and try to hold on to their lead. Palmer's missed opportunity could prove to be one of the key moments of the closing stages. With 15 minutes remaining until the final whistle, the Blues lead by a single goal.
