Chelsea make flying start as Alonso matches rare Premier League feat
Chelsea head coach Xabi Alonso has entered the Premier League record books after his side's prolific start to the season. Following a 4-3 victory over Brighton, the London club have taken their tally to seven goals in their opening two league matches.
According to Opta, Alonso is only the fourth manager in Premier League history whose team have scored seven or more goals in their first two matches of a season. Before him, Bobby Robson, Michael Laudrup and Marcelo Bielsa had achieved the feat.
Chelsea also secured victory in the opening round, beating Fulham 3-2. The Blues now have six points from two matches, while Alonso's side have impressed with their attacking output. The start to the English top flight has been particularly impressive for the Spanish coach: his team have not only taken maximum points, but have also scored plenty of goals in every match.
The former Real Madrid manager will face a real test in his next match. On 6 September, Chelsea will take on the reigning English champions, Arsenal. Three days later, the Blues will face Leeds in the Carabao Cup.
