Former Manchester United, Liverpool, and England national team player Michael Owen harshly criticized the Red Devils.

The recipient of the 2021 Ballon d'Or said he doesn't understand what the team is playing and in what direction the club is moving.

"The situation with Manchester United didn't happen suddenly. If you're a United fan, your disappointment will be that there's been no real plan for a long time. Look at all the clubs that have been in a similar position to United at the moment.

If you ask me how Aston Villa or Liverpool play, I can tell you they're good at this or weak at that. I see what they're trying to do, and that goes for almost every Premier League club. If you asked me what Manchester United is, I would tell you that I really don't know. I'm not sure if they're a possession team, or if they're playing counter-attacks, or pressing. I just don't know what they're trying to do on the field and what they're playing for," Owen said.

Manchester United is in sixth place in the Premier League table. Under Erik ten Hag's management, the team has 47 points after 28 rounds. This is eight points fewer than fourth-placed Aston Villa.
