The captain of the Indomitable Lionesses insists that, despite the squad’s youth, the team has enough maturity and character to rise to this challenge.

Cameroon will face Morocco on Wednesday 12 August in the semi-final of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. The Indomitable Lionesses, who knocked out the defending champions, Nigeria, to reach the last four, have high hopes for the tournament.

At a press conference ahead of the match against Morocco, Gabrielle Aboudi Onguene, captain of the Cameroonian women’s team, spoke about the Indomitable Lionesses’ mindset. According to the Cameroonian striker, the Cameroonian women’s team has a young squad but one that is fully aware of its ambitions.

“We have such a young squad, but we know what we want. We have a young, determined squad that’s prepared to put in the hard work. We’re taking it one match at a time and facing whichever team stands in our way as best we can.

We respect our opponents and recognise where we’ve come from. We’ve come here to enjoy ourselves, but that doesn’t mean we’re unaware of what’s at stake in this match.”
