WAFCON 2026: “This success is the result of a team effort,” says Valentine Nguele ahead of Cameroon’s clash with Malawi in the final

The head coach of the Indomitable Lionesses insists that Cameroon’s fine performance throughout the tournament is not down to any one person.

Cameroon have defied all the odds at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, currently taking place in Morocco. The Indomitable Lionesses have enjoyed a fine run to reach the final.

But for Valentine Nguele, Cameroon’s head coach, this success is above all the result of perfect cohesion within the coaching staff and the squad.

“It is a source of immense pride to be experiencing these moments. I think that just two months ago, few people would have imagined we’d be where we are today. This success is, above all, the result of a genuine team effort. We work in a spirit of dedication, trust and excellent collaboration. It is the work of an entire team united around a single goal.”

Cameroon will face Malawi on Sunday 16 August in the final of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. This will be Cameroon’s fourth final in the tournament’s history. The Indomitable Lionesses are hoping to win their first continental title.
