VAR Denies Bakambu as Congo DR Hold Benin at AFCON

Congo DR maintained a 1–0 lead over Benin in their AFCON 2025 clash in Rabat after a busy, physical encounter. Theo Bongonda’s early strike, assisted by Arthur Masuaku, proved decisive in a first half dominated by Congo DR, despite Benin enjoying spells of possession. Benin ended the half strongly, with Hassane firing over the bar.

Early in the second half, Cédric Bakambu thought he had doubled the lead with a powerful header, but VAR ruled it out for offside. As tackles flew in and fouls mounted, Congo DR slowed the tempo, while Benin continued to search for an equaliser.
