Tyler Adams Urges USMNT to Shift Mentality Ahead of World Cup

Following the USMNT’s disappointing performance in the Concacaf Nations League, midfielder Tyler Adams has called for an urgent change in the team’s mentality. In an interview with Men in Blazers on YouTube, cited by AS USA, the Bournemouth player and vocal leader of the squad reflected on the setbacks against Panama and Canada and emphasized the need for a stronger mindset heading into the 2026 World Cup.
The United States failed to defend its Nations League title, falling short in the Final Four, which sparked criticism from fans and legends alike. Adams acknowledged that the team may have become complacent following recent successes. “Before stepping onto the pitch, we need to believe we can win and compete with anyone. I don’t know if we took our success or the opportunity to play a World Cup for granted, but our mentality must change — and fast,” he said.
Addressing comments from former USMNT stars Landon Donovan and Clint Dempsey, who questioned the current generation’s hunger and focus, Adams agreed. “They’re right. These games matter and losses hurt. If they don’t, then something’s off,” he admitted.
With the World Cup on home soil fast approaching, Adams stressed that the time for change is now. “We have a huge opportunity ahead, and we can’t waste it because of a lack of belief,” he concluded.
