Tottenham Rejects Racing Bid for Alejo Véliz, Talks Put on Hold

Tottenham has turned down Racing Club’s offer for Argentine striker Alejo Véliz, putting negotiations on pause for now. As reported by TyC Sports, the Premier League side found Racing’s bid—intended to secure 70% of the player’s rights—too low. However, Spurs are open to a sale if the terms improve: they want $7 million for 100% of his economic rights while retaining 30% of any future transfer fee.
Racing is actively searching for a new striker following Maxi Salas’s departure and Adrián Balboa’s underwhelming form. Véliz, now 21, is their top target. The forward spent last season at Espanyol, scoring four goals in 29 appearances. Despite a high-profile €17 million move to Tottenham in 2023 after his breakout with Rosario Central and Argentina’s U20s, he has struggled for minutes—scoring once in eight games for Spurs and featuring briefly on loan at Sevilla.
Tottenham has opted to take time before making a final decision, but a move seems likely. Racing remains interested and is expected to keep pushing for a deal or pivot to other striker options as the window progresses.
