The tough times are now behind him, and Tomáš can once again enjoy football.

Details: The 30-year-old West Ham defensive midfielder Tomáš Souček revealed in his autobiography titled “Suk” that he experienced a harrowing period of depression and insomnia lasting two years, which almost brought his playing days to an end.

In his book, Souček wrote:

“Two terrible years. For a long time, I was embarrassed to talk about it. Even my parents didn’t suspect anything was wrong until I decided to write my confession. Something troubled me so deeply that I seriously considered ending my career.

Insomnia. Depression. Fear of the future. My thirteenth room.

At first, it was just a minor irritation, but after a few months it became unbearable. I hit rock bottom, playing every match without sleep. Every single match! Can you imagine that? I was afraid of failure, afraid of reactions, afraid of everything.” Souček confessed.

According to the player, things are much better now and he is currently enjoying life and football again.

Souček moved to West Ham from Slavia Prague in 2020 for €16 million. This season, the defensive midfielder has made eight appearances and scored two goals.

His current contract with the Hammers runs until the summer of 2027.

Reminder: Lucas Paquetá could join Manchester United as early as January
