At the third of this season's four Grand Slam events, the tennis world has witnessed a flurry of upsets—something that hasn't happened in such numbers for quite a while.

Details: According to statistics from The Athletic, for the first time since the introduction of 32 seeds in 2001, only 27 seeded players out of 64 have advanced to the third round of a major tournament.

In the women's draw, the highest-ranked early exit came from Jasmine Paolini, the world number four, who crashed out in the second round. On the men's side, the most shocking upset also involved a fourth seed, Jack Draper.

Wimbledon itself saw a record tumble: 21-year-old Argentine Solana Sierra became the first ever lucky loser to reach the fourth round of the tournament. In her third-round match, she defeated Spain's Cristina Bucsa (7-5, 1-6, 6-1).

Reminder: In the very first round of Wimbledon, world number two Coco Gauff was eliminated, falling to Ukraine's Dayana Yastremska.
