Paralympic champion Oscar Pistorius has been released from prison early for the murder of his girlfriend, according to the BBC.

It was reported that on Friday, January 5th, the South African athlete was already at home in the morning. In the early hours of February 14, 2013, Oscar Pistorius fired four shots through the bathroom door at his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp. The 29-year-old partner of the athlete was a lawyer and a well-known fashion model.

During the trial, the Paralympian claimed that he mistook his girlfriend for an intruder. In South Africa, it is not uncommon for strangers to break into a home with the intention of robbing it. The court believed Oscar's words and convicted him of culpable homicide, sentencing him to 5.5 years. However, in 2015, the prosecution appealed, and the Supreme Court decided to review the case.

Upon further examination, it was revealed that Pistorius had changed his version of events multiple times that morning and opened fire without reasonable grounds to fear for his life. Ultimately, he was convicted of murder.

According to South African law, all offenders have the right to parole after serving half of their total sentence. Thus, 11 years after imprisonment, Oscar Pistorius has been released. He is not allowed to communicate with the media until his sentence concludes in 2029. It is reported that he has settled in the home of his uncle, Arnold Pistorius, in an upscale suburb of the South African capital.
