One of the matches of Monday's game day at the European Championship was the meeting between Belgium and Slovakia in Group E.

Domenico Tedesco's side approached the match as favourites, and it looked like the Red Devils would pick up an easy win over such a modest opponent, but the latter managed to surprise, and in the seventh minute Slovakian forward Ivan Schranz opened the scoring.

The Belgians started to create chances, but they failed to score by the end of the first half. Romelu Lukaku managed to do it at the start of the second half, but the goal was cancelled after VAR intervention, which saw an offside in one of the attacking phases.

Tedesco's team continued their onslaught on Martin Dubravka's goal and kept creating chances, with Lukaku scoring again in the 86th minute. But, unfortunately, Loïs Openda played with his hand at the moment that preceded the goal and the referee had no choice but to review the replay and cancel the goal.

As a consequence, Belgium scored twice but lost 0-1 to Slovakia. The Slovaks together with the Romanians, who earlier defeated Ukraine (3:0), share the first two places in the group.

The Red Devils lost for the first time in 15 matches. The last time the Belgians lost was at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, where they lost to Morocco (0-2).
