On 17 June, the first match in Group E of the European Championship took place between the teams of Romania and Ukraine.

Serhiy Rebrov's charges spent the first half an hour in total domination, but the Romanians were able to take advantage of a mistake in the defence of the Ukrainian team, and Nicolae Stanciu opened the scoring with a beautiful strike.

After this goal, Edvard Jordanescu's wards managed to take the initiative in their own hands, and although the Ukrainians created chances, not only to realise them, but even to hit the goalpost. More accurate were the Romanians, who in the second half scored two goals in four minutes.

Then the Balkan players did not let go and kept the score at 3-0 in Romania's favour.

It is noteworthy that the "tricolour" won only the second victory at the European Championships. The first one happened almost 24 years ago - on 20 June 2000 at the championship in Belgium and the Netherlands against England. Then the Romanians also scored three goals, but conceded two in return.

Ukrainians lost their second consecutive European Championship match by three goals or more. Euro 2020 ended for the Blue and Yellow after a 0-4 defeat to England in the quarter-finals.
