On 14 June, one of the biggest events in the world of national team football will kick off - in Germany, 24 national teams will begin their battle for the title of Europe's strongest nation at UEFA Euro 2024.

The Slovenian national team is one of the many teams that formed after the break-up of Yugoslavia. And the debut of Slovenian players at the European Championship did not have to wait long. In the play-off for selection for Euro 2000 Slovenians defeated the national team of Ukraine and for the first time in history reached the continental championship.

It was the first and, until the tournament in Germany, the last time. At Euro 2000 Slovenians did not win a single match and in the group with Spain, SR Yugoslavia and Norway took the last place.

Who is the head coach of Slovenia national football team?

The head coach of the Slovenian national team since 2018 is a domestic specialist, Matjaž Kek. Moreover, now comes his second cadence at the head of the national team. He has already managed the Slovenian national team in 2007-2011.

He managed to lead the team to the 2010 World Cup, but after unsuccessful selection for Euro 2012 he was fired. His track record includes working with one of the Slovenian football giants Maribor, as well as Saudi Arabia's Al-Ittihad in 2011-2012, and Croatia's Rijeka.
