Mamelodi Sundowns have been caught completely off guard in the CAF Super Cup final.

Details: The South African giants suffered a nightmare start to their continental showdown against USM Alger on Sunday, November 8. Just four minutes into the match at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria, Zakaria Draoui stunned the home crowd by scoring the opening goal for the Algerian side. The early strike put USM Alger 1-0 ahead and forced Mamelodi Sundowns to chase the game almost immediately.

This year's final brings together the winners of Africa's two major club competitions. Mamelodi Sundowns secured their place by winning the 2025/26 CAF Champions League, while USM Alger qualified after triumphing in the CAF Confederation Cup. Despite playing on home soil, the South Africans found themselves trailing almost from the opening whistle.

The Algerian club is no stranger to success in this competition. USM Alger lifted the CAF Super Cup in 2023 after defeating Egyptian giants Al Ahly 1-0. Mamelodi Sundowns also have one previous triumph, having beaten TP Mazembe by the same scoreline in 2017.

It's worth noting that both clubs are chasing their second CAF Super Cup trophy. According to CAF, the winner of the 2026 final will receive $500,000, while the losing finalist will earn $250,000. If the match finishes level after 90 minutes, the trophy will be decided directly by a penalty shootout, without extra time.
