Senegal was crowned African champion for the second time in its history on Sunday, 18 January 2026. In addition to this achievement, the Lions of Teranga also added another goal to their tally in the Africa Cup of Nations.
Pape Gueye's winning goal against Morocco in extra time was the 100th scored by the Senegalese national team since it began participating in the tournament. This achievement is also Senegal's first in the Africa Cup of Nations final in the four finals it has played in its history. It took a penalty shootout in the 2021 edition for Senegal to beat Egypt and win the title for the first time in its history.
