Scandal erupts in Ligue 1 over holy month for practising Muslims ligue1.com

Yesterday marked the commencement of the sacred month of Ramadan for adherents of Islam, against which a new controversy has ignited in the French Ligue 1.

In contrast to previous seasons, Ligue 1 has prohibited the halting of matches to allow individuals of this faith to partake in sustenance. Conversely, the English Premier League and the Bundesliga, for instance, permit such breaks.

It is worth recalling that, in accordance with the rules of this sacred month, the consumption of food is forbidden from sunrise until sunset.

The Federation grounds its position on Article 1.1 of its statutes: "During competitions or events organized on the Federation's territory or in connection with it, the following are prohibited: any speeches or demonstrations of a political, ideological, religious, or trade union nature, any wearing of signs or clothing purportedly expressing political, philosophical, religious, or trade union affiliation."

Many representatives of African countries, who adhere to Islam, participate in the French championship.
