Sakkari broke a streak of four consecutive losses & reach the second round of Wimbledon

On Monday, July 1st, the first matches of one of the Grand Slam tournaments, Wimbledon, took place. In the first round, world number nine Maria Sakkari played against Kessler (world number 119).

Sakkari started the first set strongly, but at one point, she allowed her opponent to take the lead - 3:2. However, the Greek tennis player managed to regroup and took the first set 6:3. The second set was much easier for Sakkari. She convincingly and quickly defeated Karatantcheva 6:1, winning the match 2:0.

Maria Sakkari breaks her four-match losing streak and starts Wimbledon with a victory. In the next round, she will face either Arantxa Rus or Yuan Yue.
