The former Liverpool midfielder has called for Bellingham to be removed from the starting line-up

Former Liverpool, Manchester City, and Germany midfielder Dietmar Hamann made a surprising statement regarding Real Madrid and England star Jude Bellingham.

Hamann urged Gareth Southgate to remove Bellingham from the starting lineup and to play Phil Foden in his position.

"Between Phil Foden and Jude Bellingham only one can play and for me, that would be Foden. For me you have to take Bellingham out, Foden in the middle and then Cole Palmer and Anthony Gordon on the flanks."

"Bellingham was hyped after his first six months in Madrid. But he has only performed averagely for Real since Christmas. In the Champions League, he was barely seen in the quarter-finals, semi-finals, and final. That’s why I’m not surprised by his performances at the European Championships."

"Bellingham is undoubtedly a good player, but he needs to confirm his performances from last year. Many are talking about the Ballon d’Or, but I don’t see him as a world footballer at the moment".

It is worth noting that England has advanced to the quarter-finals of Euro 2024, where they will face Switzerland on Friday, July 5. It was Bellingham's goal that allowed England to take the game against Slovakia into extra time and win. The 20-year-old midfielder also scored the winning goal in the group stage match against Serbia.
