Claudio Ranieri is under consideration as one of the candidates to replace Luciano Spalletti as head coach of the Italy national team, according to Gianluca Di Marzio. After a crushing 0-3 defeat to Norway, which put their qualification for the 2026 World Cup in serious jeopardy, Spalletti’s position has been significantly weakened.
One of the most discussed options is the 73-year-old Ranieri, who recently wrapped up his brief spell in Rome. He has previously stated he no longer intends to coach club sides, but has not ruled out an interest in leading a national team.
Other names in the frame include Stefano Pioli, currently managing Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia, though rumors suggest he may soon leave the club. Daniele De Rossi is also being considered as a possible candidate.
A decision regarding Spalletti's future will be made after the upcoming qualifier against Moldova. It is expected that following that match, the coach will hold talks with Italian Football Federation president Gabriele Gravina.
