Ismaila Sarr expresses his disappointment following Senegal’s defeat by Norway
The Lions of Teranga suffered their second defeat in Group I at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Despite an encouraging start to the match against Norway on the night of Tuesday 23 June, Senegal lost 3–2, jeopardising their chances of qualifying for the round of 32. At the end of the match, Ismaila Sarr, who scored a brace for Senegal, made no secret of his frustration. The Senegalese winger lamented the mistakes that proved costly for his team, particularly in the second half.
“We started the match very well; we worked hard. Unfortunately, we conceded two goals in the second half, including another very early second goal. We kept working, giving it our all, but well… I’m lost for words because we simply shouldn’t have let that happen. We’ll keep working hard and make our people and our supporters proud.”
Senegal will play their final group stage match against Iraq on 26 June.
