Ismaila Sarr makes history at the World Cup
The Senegalese striker has equalled the achievements of Ahmed Musa and Papa Bouba Diop.
Despite Senegal’s 3–2 defeat to Norway on the night of 23 June during the second matchday of the group stage of the World Cup currently being held in the United States, Canada and Mexico, Ismaila Sarr has gone down in the history books of African football. The Senegalese international scored a memorable brace.
Thanks to this performance, Sarr has become the first African player to score a brace against a European nation at the World Cup since Ahmed Musa did so for Nigeria. The Nigerian had achieved this feat against Iceland on 22 June during the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
Ismaila Sarr has now scored a total of three goals at the World Cup and has become Senegal’s joint-top scorer in World Cup history, level with Papa Bouba Diop.
